Synaptic Laboratories Limited today announced that it has been awarded European Patent EP 1820295 (B1) which forms part of its international patent strategy. This patent describes the innovative hardware dedicated bijective accumulator that is at the heart of the VEST cipher design. Synaptic Labs' accumulator has the distinctive property that each bit of the accumulator state is updated using a function supplied a unique set of inputs.
An abstract diagram of the patented 83-bit wide VEST-4 core accumulator round function.
In the high-level diagram above each of the output bits is the result of a unique nonlinear function supplied a unique set of 6 inputs selected from the left of the bit. Each of the 83 output bits is then permuted before being supplied as input into the next round.
